Reading was known for excursion trains long before it operated the popular Iron Horse Rambles with the T1 steam locomotives. In April, 1948, an excursion was operated from Reading to Wilmington, Del., and return over the Wilmington and Northern Branch. One of the "highlights" of the trip was a stop at the Luria Brothers scrapyard in Modena to see camelback steam locomotives being cut up for scrap. A camelback was even pictured on the flyer.
