Class XLj

Class XLj consisted of three groups of 50' cars built in 1969, 1971 and 1972. There were structural and mechanical differences between each group.

Group 1 - built 1969

The first group of 200 cars was built as RDG 18400-18599. These cars were assigned CR 230907-231102 by Conrail. Only five of them were left on the roster by 1989. These were originally delivered in the < READING > banner paint scheme. Cars were equipped with end of car cushioning.

These cars also received the < READING > banner scheme and had end of car cushioning. Although assigned Conrail numbers, in 1976 these cars were conveyed to the Delaware and Hudson instead. Cars remaining into the Canadian Pacific era were assigned CP 203000-203179.
